EnglishTests.AI is a free American accent test and pronunciation training app. It scores non-native English speech against native American English on a 9-band scale aligned to the IELTS speaking rubric and tells you which sounds to practice first to improve your accent.
How accurate is the accent score?
EnglishTests.AI uses forced alignment with CTC and Viterbi decoding against the cmudict-en-US dictionary, then a posterior acoustic model that grades each sound on severity. Scores are calibrated to a 9-band scale that mirrors the IELTS speaking rubric, so a 6.5 on our scale predicts roughly an IELTS speaking band 6.5.
Is the accent test really free?
Yes. Every user gets three free tests with no signup required. After that, the Weekly Pack is $3.99 a week for 15 tests a day, or the Monthly Pack is $9.99 a month.
Which accent does EnglishTests.AI compare against?
General American English. Other native English variants (UK, Australian, Canadian) are not on the current benchmark, but UK English is on the roadmap as the next benchmark.
